Back Relief

I would like to encourage my creative buddy to take better care of his back. Your back is hurt way too often, and we need to figure out how to prevent future occurances. For now, let's focus on treatment:

Most of the time back pain gets better in about two to four weeks with what doctors refer to as conservative therapy, which involves:

* Nonprescription pain medicines
* Application of ice for the first 24 hours, followed by applications of heat on the following days
* A gradual return to normal activities

It is best not to stay in bed for more than two to three days. Even if moving around is uncomfortable, it is generally good for you. It helps relieve muscle spasm and strengthens the muscles that support the back.
People with acute lower back pain may benefit from an exercise program, if it is started early and the exercises cause minimal stress on the back. The goals of an exercise program are to prevent weakness resulting from inactivity and to improve the body’s ability to tolerate activity so the person can return to normal functioning.
Unless the back pain is due to a serious medical condition or an identifiable cause that requires an operation to correct, surgery should be reserved as a last resort to be undertaken only after all other options have failed to relieve the pain.

Is it art? Is it sculpture? Is it a musical instrument?

This fascinating creation is know as the Guitaround and yes it is all three. Inventor, Musician, Magician, Artist Julian Oteyza built a travel guitar as a result of missing his guitar while he was traveling all over the country. Although there were other earlier travel guitars in existence, he decided to build one that suited his artistic tastes. This is just one guitar out of a series ranging from a tennis racket shape to one painted as a beautifully psychedelic tribute to the Beatles. They all vary in shape, size, and color, and all feature custom artwork.

Killer Keller

Speaking of design. I've been stoked about Keller Williams for the past few months. I didn't really get into his music until this past year, but I can't get enough now. He designs beautifully intricate quircky funky earthy accoustic sonic electric izms. I recently caught him at the 930 Club and was blown away. The dude played for 2 and 1/2 hours by himself and single handedly put on one of the best shows I've ever seen. While sandwiched between a wall and someone 9 feet taller than me (I'm always stuck behind giants it seems), I met a taper named Ned. He was nice enough to hook me up with a link to the full live show. Check out a quick blurb on his next project:

Williams is currently finishing work on his next studio project YOUTH. "I've been at it for two and a half years and hope to have it out in fall of 2006. Its a collaborative process. I've flown all over the country to do sessions with my heroes and there are still more tracks to be done with more heroes at press time. To name drop a few: Bob Weir, Victor Wooten, Charlie Hunter, Derrek Phillips, Steve Kimock, John Molo, Martin Sexton, The String Cheese Incident, Sanjay Mishra and Fareed Haque to name just a few."

Fishy Egyption

I don't design much, but I love the Fishy Egyption, and any other beautifully designed drum.
I also like to eat and drink...

Readymechs!

These downloadable toys look awesome and are great for the environment as well. I thought the days of playing with cardboard and building things yourself were long gone but these guys can get anyone of any age back in the action. Readymechs are free, flatpack toys for you to print and build yourself. All you need is some thick paper, any color printer, and an imagination. check these little ones out at: www.readymech.com

awaken

Nothing much to say but good morning. this one was done while eating lunch and thinking about how it is way too warm for january. just the other day we were in the 70's and I was surrounded by gnats and other flying insects. i imagined how strange this must be for them since they are emerging only to freeze. good luck little bugs.

Anything goes...

The first blog and many more to come. This is a place to put up any work or pieces that you are proud of or even hate. Just let it all out there. We want to see it. Cheers!
